Choosing the right type of locksmith can be a tricky thing for someone to do, because you have to take into consideration a lot of factors like the type of job they’re going to be doing, the time of day, and the cost of labor that they’ll be putting in to repair whatever it is you need done. Here at
Keyside Locksmiths, we’re going to help you find out how much a locksmith costs by clicking on the link to find out everything you need to know.
In Australia, the average cost for a locksmith would range around $60/hr, but this isn’t always the case because it still depends on what type of job the client is asking them to do. In addition to that people, you’d also have to take into account replacement parts, labour, time, and overall experience of the locksmith.
If someone would ask us how much should I expect to pay for a locksmith, we’d tell them that they can expect that prices will still vary from as low as $45/hr to as much as $80/hr. (1) However, if you’re looking for a locksmith to do some really small tasks that isn’t that difficult to do, then the prices go as low as $20, if you’re lucky. (2)
Typically, a normal service call to a locksmith to replace the locks inside your house would be around $100 - $120. Booking qualified Master Locksmiths which would cost around $88 - $120 per replacement (3). It’s considered a good deal because most of the time, these prices already have labour and parts accounted for already. However, the prices will rise after hours, going as much as $150 - $200. (4)
It really just depends on a lot of factors, but the most common ones would be the time of day and location of the job. To give an estimate, expect to spend about $100 - $200 on the normal circumstance. If you have extra locks to spare with you though, expect locksmiths to charge way less at around only $40 - $60 while on location. (5)
Compared to other locksmiths, rekeying is actually priced fairly cheap. On average, the cost for it would be around $20 - $50 during work hours. Other instances like after hours and emergency services can raise the price way up than normal, from $220 - $330.
Special circumstances, like rekeying a lock without changing any of the pins, would be very cheap at only $15 to $20 per door. Otherwise, the price would be between $40 - $100 if they figure out the old key isn’t compatible anymore. (6)
With installation included, the cost of getting deadlocks would cost you around $100-$250 (7). The cost depends on how much the locksmith will charge, but it will generally be inside this bracket. However, considering the value of what you’ll get from the purchase, we say that it’s a good deal already. Having a deadbolt installed on your front door would add more protection towards your home, and although you may not see it yet, safety is a big deal and should be the number one priority for all house owners. It’s an inexpensive yet effective way to make sure you stay extra protected while being inside the comforts of your home.
If you want a more cost effective approach to your key problems, then it’s actually cheaper on average to just rekey your locks instead of replacing them. You can save an average of 50% of your savings if you choose to rekey instead of replacing locks. Depending on the type of job, a general rekeying job without altering any lock pins would only be around $15-$20 per door, while if the locksmith rekeys by rearranging the lock pins, it would cost between $40-$100. (8)
Both of these jobs are still cheaper than replacing the actual lock, with the minimum price of doing the job not going below $30, and it can even go as high as $300 depending on what type of lock your locksmith will be working with.
Normally, 24 hour locksmiths charge less or do not charge a call out fee at all during normal working hours, bringing convenience since they’ll only be paying for the hourly rate and for the parts needed. Calling a locksmith after hours is where things are different, as prices tend to increase significantly. This is due to locksmiths wanting to be paid extra for working late at night and going through the hassle of going to the client and performing their services during sleeping hours. (9)
For business hours, locksmiths who charge a call out fee would ask their clients to pay around $110 on average. Weekends and evening services, usually from 9PM-12AM, prices will hike up to around $150-$200 (10). After hours, the call out charge increases to at least $300. So before asking
how much is a locksmith house call, be sure to know what time and what day it is first before calling.
